The Yakisugi process

Four stages. One fire.

Various timbers

Sustainably sourced New Zealand timber, selected and prepared for the burn.

Flame

The surface is carbonized by hand, deepening grain and colour while sealing it against rot.

Brush

Char is worked back to reveal texture — soft ash, hard grain, or a mirror-black finish.

Oil

A natural oil finish locks in the colour and readies the piece for a lifetime outdoors or in.
